Our client's and our team’s health and safety is our top priority so in the context of COVID-19 we have made some modifications to the way we operate. We have changed our protocols and our hygiene standards and as a result you will notice that your salon experience will be different from previous visits.

What has changed?

Face masks must be worn by clients in the salon.

Pre-booked appointments only! We are not permitted to have walk in clients and all appointments must be booked (so that we have your contact details). You can drop in to the salon to book but it will be helpful if you call us on 01491 832323 or email to book your appointment.

Less clients and staff in the salon — to keep a safe space between us all we have removed half of the stations as well as taking away our waiting area.

No waiting — as there is no waiting area please don't bring children or friends to the salon, just attend alone.

You will be asked to keep your belongings with you and be in charge of your own coat. We will provide you with a plastic box to place your belongings in. The box will be sanitised between each use.

You will not be offered any ‘common touch’ items in the salon such as magazines or a beverage. Water will be available in disposable cups and please feel free to bring your own refreshments or magazines.

You will not be allowed to touch products in our retail area and we will be removing testers. Whilst this area will be cleaned regularly, it is still advised in order to mitigate risk. If you are interested in purchasing a product, please ask a member of staff for help.

Your stylist will be wearing PPE – this might seem strange but it is to protect both clients and staff. PPE will be changed regularly according to the Government and the World Health Organisation’s guidelines.

All clients will have single use items such as towels and gowns, these will be washed at the correct temperatures after every use. Capes and other items will be disposable.

All equipment used in your appointment e.g. scissors, combs etc. will have been cleaned / disinfected before your appointment.

All areas of the salon will have been cleaned before you arrive for your appointment – we are allowing additional time between appointments to ensure that each area of the salon is cleaned before our next client arrives.

Please pay via contactless wherever possible or credit / debit card to avoid cash transferring hands. We accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.

It is imperative that you let us know if you have been ill with the virus or have been in contact with anyone who has been sick. This is to enable us to minimise any risk of contamination for other clients and ourselves.

Cancellation charges— Please cancel in plenty of time if you are unable to make your appointment. With our restricted way of working we will not be able to fill cancelled appointments at short notice. We will charge the full amount for a missed appointment if cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

These changes have not been taken lightly and are with health and safety as our top priority. We are following the Government guidelines to ensure all health and safety standards are met.

Be pampered from the word go as you are treated to an Indian head massage in our stress free environment and then relax in the safe hands of our experienced stylists. All our stylists are up to date with all the latest techniques and trends, catering for all ages and needs.

The salon promotes ecologically friendly practices with an emphasis on organic cruelty-free products and recycling.

The History... A Step Ahead 2 was opened in August 1999 by Art Director, and owner, Georgia. Prior to this Georgia had been based in Bridport in Dorset, where along with a fellow stylist she opened a salon, A Step Ahead. The salon soon became a huge success and was very busy. 1998 found Georgia leaving the salon and relocating to Wallingford. After a short time working for a salon in Henley, Georgia was ready to open her own salon again and A Step Ahead 2 was born.


We use a wide range of products in the salon and where possible we choose organic products and products that are kind to the environment. The products we use in the salon to care for your hair are the same products that we sell in the salon so that you can continue to care for your hair in the same way at home.

If you are planning your wedding, why not let the team at A Step Ahead take away some of the stress.

Before the day of the wedding we will need to do a trial run for the bride. We will also do a trial for the bridesmaids where necessary. At the trial we suggest that you have all the things you are going to have in your hair, for example, veil, headdress, flowers etc. as this makes a big difference to the over all look and the end result. We can only get the right look with the right components.

We can come out to your home, availability permitting, provided we receive adequate notice. If your wedding is on a Sunday we will be happy to cater for this, availability permitting.

We have packages starting from £ 145 but we don't list them here as we find that every brides requirements are unique. We can include Brides Trial, wash, treatment and blow-dry the day before, the hair on the day, bridesmaids...

A Step Ahead 2 is located in the pedestrianised part of St Mary's Street, in Wallingford. Once you are in the middle of the shopping area of Wallingford you should find yourself in Market Place. If you stand with the Town Hall to your right and Lloyds Bank in front of you, the pedestrian part of St Mary's Street leads off to your left.

We will use this information to contact you to remind you of your appointment or to let you know if your appointment changes for any reason.
